Domaine des Gravennes makes one of the best Côtes du Rhône AOCs I’ve had in its pricepoint.

The winery has undergone a renaissance under the third-generation Bayon de Noyer family: they converted to organic farming, modernized the winery and groomed their son Luc to be winemaker, which he did in 2011. This grooming included earning an oenology degree in Beaune (2008), apprenticing overseas (Lebanon, New Zealand and Napa Valley), and then working as a sommelier in London. Luc vinifies the wine with native yeasts and age in cement to achieve a silky style.

The estate is located in the northern section of the Southern Rhône appellation. It is named after the large flat stones in the soils. Poppies and lavender grow between rows for biodiversity, and the plots are farmed individually.
